Fitness
The reason, I called this ‘The road ahead blog’ is because I am trying to push my life in a new direction, and one of the area I identified that needed improving was my fitness.
What has fitness got to do with photography? Well quite a lot. As a studio photographer, I do a lot of lifting, light stand background and a host of other things. A shoot may take an hour, or it might take 3 days, with 16 hour days, travelling around, setting up and doing the shoot as well as packing away and coming home. This is tiring and my work was suffering because of it.
At the moment, I have very little flexibility and this again can effect shoots. A great image, can easily be missed if the photographer isn’t willing to put in the effort to experiment with composition, and it has got to the point, and something as simple as being a bit more flexible can allow me to get lower to get a better shot of the subject.
The last one is probably the most important. I set my shoots up in my head and during the project last year, I was feeling exhausted and this definitely, hurt the work, not just because of the physical exertion but the mental exertion. With my brain not being 100% with it, and this led me to be less able to think up different shots and lighting.
In the end to improve my photography business, there is no single magic bullet. It is going to be down to lots of different things coming together and working on my fitness. Fingers crossed we will notice a difference over the next few months, as I hopefully lose some weight and get fitter.
