Moments of inspiration
For me,my favourite part of photography is having a moment of inspiration and then following it through from beginning to end.
This photo is a prime example. I didn’t get to bed this week, until around 2am, read for an hour or so and then tried to get to sleep (which proved rather elusive, with lots of tossing and turning. I got up at 7:15am and went to the bathroom. It was whilst I was in the bathroom, that the idea, hit me. I must look like a complete nightmare at the moment, wow, wouldn’t that be fun to photograph. So then I rushed into the studio, turned everything on (fortunately, everything was set up, though I did change my aperture, remove a background and adjust flash settings) and took a selfie.
Fortunately, the settings were pretty much bang on but my hair was so big, it went out of frame. It was at that point though that I was on to a winner. Moving the camera back, to allow for more space in the image, I then took a few snaps, trying not to change the way I looked as I moved back and forward, setting off the timer.
I was pretty sure I had the image in around 10 or so shots (the biggest issue was making sure I was in frame and focus). So I went and checked the photos, downloading and editing one. Each edit I do is lightly different but I do try to help myself by following a formula to begin with then changing it as I go along. Soon though I took the image into Photoshop to finish it. Whilst, don’t mind looking like an idiot, I wanted to remove a couple of things, like skin nape and something on my top. Then it got to the fine details and I changed a few little things. There are actually 5 versions of the photos, with small changes.
Here we see the final photo, from idea to fulfilment in 1 hour.
